A group of CNG workers has been staging a demonstration by blocking highway for two hours protesting against the assault on a fellow worker in Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur upazila on Monday.
Hundreds of workers assembled on Bogura-Nagarbari Highway and blocked it demanding immediate trial of the accused involved in assaulting their fellow.
The blockade resulted a 20km long tailback on the highway, causing a great havoc for the commuters.
According to the agitating workers, a group of tank lorry workers locked into an altercation with a CNG worker over their internal feud. The workers, at one stage, assaulted the CNG worker holding CNG from him.
The CNG workers later blocked the highway minutes after the news of assaulting their fellow escalated.
Being informed, Shahjadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamruzzaman and police station officer-in-charge Aslam Ali rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The agitating workers said that they withdrew the blockade as the UNO assured them of looking into the matter.
They would go for a tougher movement if their demand was met soon, they added.
