Bangladesh Army has recovered a large amount of equipment, including ammunition, from a secret hideout of regional militant group United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) at Kawkhali upazila in Rangamati district.
During the operation, army recovered a pistol, 17 rounds of pistol ammunition, a binocular, several walkie-talkie sets, a hard disk, uniforms of the militants, receipts for extortion, a revolutionary red book, and various other materials. However, no arrests were made during the operation.
During a press briefing at Bangladesh Army's Rangamati Sadar Zone office on Friday afternoon, Lt. Colonel Muhammad Junayed Uddin Shah Chowdhury, the zone commander, confirmed the recovery.
Rangamati Sadar Circle's Additional Police Superintendent, Md Mahmud Khan, was also present in the press briefing.
It was further mentioned that the operation was carried out at Kawkhali area based on intelligence information early in the morning. Upon detecting the presence of the army, the militants fled.
However, various materials used by them were recovered. The UPDF attempted to obstruct the operation by staging protests with the help of some local hill women, it was reported.
The army sources mentioned that operations against armed militants who disturb the peace in the hill areas and pose a threat to the country's sovereignty would continue.
Rangamati Sadar Circle Additional Police Superintendent Md Mahmud Khan mentioned that a case is currently being processed with the Kawkhali Police Station.
