A violent clash broke out in front of North South University (NSU) in the capital on Wednesday night, leaving several students injured.

Allegations have surfaced against members of the student organisation Chhatra Dal, with both sides filing counter-complaints at Vatara Police Station. The injured students received treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Sarjis Alam, chief organiser of the National Citizens' Party (North), claimed in a Facebook post that Chhatra Dal members were responsible for the violence.

He detailed his visit to the Bashundhara residential area after Iftar, where he spent time with over a hundred students from NSU, IUB, AIUB, and UIU. While leaving the area around 10:00pm with 15 to 20 students, he encountered a group of 10 to 12 individuals chanting slogans about the Dhaka University (DU) syndicate near the NSU gate.

Among them, he identified Chhatra Dal leader Ahmed Shakil. Sarjis alleged that the group verbally abused the private university students with him and attempted to provoke a confrontation. Sensing their intent, he claimed he urged both sides to leave before departing.

However, Sarjis further alleged that later in the night, Shakil and his associates launched a violent attack on the private university students, wielding sharp weapons and leaving several injured.

He demanded swift legal action against those involved. In a strong warning, he stated, "After enduring 16 years of oppression by 'Tokai League,' if Chhatra Dal members now resort to similar tactics, they will face the same fate. Learn from history before it is too late."

On the other hand, NSU students have accused Chhatra Dal activists of escalating the situation. They claim that when Alam arrived after 10:00pm, around 40 to 50 Chhatra Dal members attacked students, injuring several.

As tensions rise, NSU students have announced a press conference today to share further details about the incident.
