Prices of essentials come down at Dumuria

DUMURIA, KHULNA, Mar 6: Consumers have got relief in Dumuria Upazila of the district for decreased prices of all essential items including vegetables.

According to market sources, prices of all vegetables are within purchasing capacities of general consumers.

A visit on Wednesday to several markets in upazila found winter vegetables still being marketed. In the absence of any syndicate, prices of all items have come down, consumers said.

In the last 15 years, vegetables were not sold at such cheaper prices.

In kitchen markets, per kilogram (kg) bean is selling at Tk 40, brinjal at Tk 50, bitter gourd at Tk 60, cauliflower at Tk 15 per piece, cabbage at Tk 10 per piece, green chilli at Tk 40 per kg, tomato at Tk 10 per kg, potato at Tk 25 per kg, onion at Tk 45 per kg, garlic at Tk 120, ginger at Th 160, sweet pumpkin at Tk 15, turmeric at Tk 300, Kumra at Tk 40 per piece, bottled gourd at Tk 40 per piece, cucumber at Tk 50, arum lube at Tk 100 per kg, papaya at Tk 30 per kg, carrot at Tk 30, lemon Tk 150, and coriander leaf at Tk 50.

Date is selling at Tk 400-1,000 per kg, red lentil at Tk 105 per kg, Chholabut at Tk 100, Mug ay Tk 125 per kg, egg at Tk 40 per haali (four pieces), bottled soyabean at Tk 195 per litre, loose edible at Tk 195 per litre and puffed rice at Tk 340-420 per 5kg packet.

Per kg Katari rice is selling at Tk 72, Indian at Tk 49-60, rice-49 at Tk 60, rice-29 at Tk 64, BR-28 at Tk 70, AtAB AT Tk 50 and Polao rice at Tk 100-120 per kg.

Broiler hen is selling at Tk 180 per kg, cock at Tk 220, layer cock at Tk 320, classic (Sonali) at Tk 280, beef at Tk 700, and mutton at Tk 1,200 per kg.

While talking with this correspondent of The Daily Observer, consumers said, "Essentials' prices are within our purchasing capacities. We can purchase according to our needs. If the prices of all items continue to decrease, consumers of low and middle income sections like us will have to face trouble in purchasing goods." But they said, prices of beef, mutton and hens are higher.

A consumer, Khairul said, prices of all things are cheaper; a wedding for kitchen items of Tk 5,000 can be arranged.
Mohammad Ali, Farhad Hossain, Aktar and others said, "We couldn't think prices would decrease during the Ramadan. Now we are getting relief."

Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection's Assistant Director Md Shafiqul Islam said, "We have instructed traders and others concerned verbally to sell all goods at the government-fixed rates. Besides, bazaar monitoring will continue."
