A mobile court has fined Tk 2 lakh to owner of a brick kiln at Nalchity upazila in Jhalakathi district.
The drive led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Nazrul Islam, conducted raid at Hawladar Bricks and SRB Bricks under Dapdapia union in the upazila on Thursday.
It is reported that soil was being illegally excavated from nearby agricultural land and used in the brick-making process at Hawladar Bricks.
On information, the owner was fined Tk 2 lakh for illegally excavating soil from agricultural land.
During the raid, the UNO was accompanied by Jhlakathi Department of Environment Assistant Director Anjuman Nessa and Nalchity Police Station Inspector Mohammad Aminul Haque.
According to UNO Mohammad Nazrul Islam, the fine of two lakh taka was imposed on one brick kiln for violating Section 5 of theThe Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013.
He also mentioned that this operation will continue to protect the environment and agricultural land in the future.
