The interim government has removed the name of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy from two geostationary satellite stations following the renaming of Bangabandhu Satellite-1.
Earlier on Monday, a notification issued by the Posts and Telecommunications Division said Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus had greenlit the proposal to change the name of the Bangabandhu satellite to Bangladesh Satellite-1.
A day after the approval, Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited, or BSCL, confirms that the name change is effective.
In a statement on Tuesday, the BSCL said the name of the Bangabandhu satellite has been changed to "Bangladesh Satellite-1" in view of the decision of the advisory council meeting. —bdnews24.com
In addition, the names of the "Sajeeb Wazed satellite ground centres" in Gazipur and Betbunia have been changed.
They have been renamed "Primary Satellite Ground Control Station Gazipur" and "Secondary Satellite Ground Station Betbunia".
According to the statement, the BSCL has started the process of changing these names per the satellite industry's international regulations.
From now on, all the activities of the satellite stations will be carried out under the new name.
Since the fall of the Awami League government on Aug 5, 2024, the interim administration has been carrying out wide-ranging reforms across various sectors.
As part of these changes, key administrative positions have been reshuffled, and the names of roads, bridges, and other structures are being altered, with the geostationary satellite stations being the latest in the series of renaming efforts.
