NATORE, Mar 5: Department of Livestock Services (DoLS) from Sunday started to sell 1,000 pieces of eggs and 50 litres of milk daily at reasonable prices in district town for low income consumers on the occasion of holy Ramadan.
Dr Zulfiquer Md Akhter Hossain, District Livestock Officer, inaugurated the programme in front of his office building in Mirpara area in the town.
The DoLS organized the programme in co-operation with the District Poultry and Dairy Association aiming at doing good for the helpless people.
Naser Ahmed, Convener of the association, and other government officials were present.
Livestock Officer Dr Zulfiquer Md Akhter Hossain said, the programme will continue for the whole Ramadan month to remove the anxiety of the people from suffering.
On the first day, 600 pieces of eggs and 20 litre milk were sold to consumers. The authorities expect the extent of sale will be more after the full circulation of the matter among people.
There are 28 lakhs of people in the district and the demand of eggs is 19.24 crore pieces. The production is 45.78 crore. Farm owners and domestic producers are getting benefited. They are rearing hens and swans regularly for trading purpose.
The demand of milk in the district is 3.50 lakh metric tons (mt) and the production is 3.30 lakh mt.
The demand of meat in the district is 1,25,308 mt, and the production is 1,21,000 mt. The price of meat is overall reasonable.
Naser Ahmed Convener of the District Poultry Farm Association said, they are selling eggs for this programme by cutting the profit from the total price.
Many egg producing farms are coming forward to this purpose like him considering the welfare of people. This step was taken for the poor people to remove their anxiety in food purpose, he added.
This programme will continue for the whole Ramadan month from 10am to 12pm every day.
Ten poultry farms of the district are providing eggs and milk from their farms to this programme.
