The National Citizens' Party (NCP) has called for a new Constitution and an election for a Constituent Assembly to establish a Second Republic, arguing that Bangladesh cannot progress under the existing governance structure.

Speaking to journalists at the National Martyr's Memorial in Savar on Tuesday morning, NCP Convener Nahid Islam made the remarks.

Nahid Islam, along with party leaders and activists, paid floral tributes at the National Martyrs' Memorial, standing in silent remembrance of the fallen heroes.

The event saw the presence of NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossen, along with key leaders including Nasiruddin
Patwari, Abdul Hannan Masud, Samanta Sharmin, Ariful Islam, Tasnim Jara, Hasnat Abdullah, and Sarjis Alam, among others.
Later, they paid tributes to July martyred at Rayerbazar Cemetery in the capital.

The NCP has also issued a stern warning, declaring that no discussions on elections should take place until those responsible for the July crackdown face justice.

Nahid Islam said, "A new Bangladesh is not possible while retaining the old constitution and governance system."
He stressed that the party is committed to restructuring the nation's political framework.

Islam also pressed for swift justice for the July genocide, urging that the judicial process must ensure the Awami League's political decisions are settled within the country.

Highlighting the party's immediate plans, he announced that the NCP would soon apply for registration with the Election Commission after meeting the necessary conditions.

Outlining the party's priorities, he emphasised that expanding grassroots activities is at the core of their strategy.
"Our first goal is to strengthen our presence at the grassroots level and engage more actively with the people," he added.
The NCP's call for a Second Republic signals a push for fundamental political change, with party leaders determined to reshape the country's future.

Chief Organiser (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam said, "As long as we do not witness the execution of the murderer Hasina, no one should even mistakenly talk about elections."

He further accused Hasina of concealing the victims' bodies, adding, "Mothers are desperately searching for the bodies. How can we think about anything else in Bangladesh until the killer is brought to justice?"
Echoing Sarji's sentiments, NCP Convenor Nahid Islam stressed the need for swift justice.

"The repression during the July uprising must be addressed immediately. Only through fair trials can the pain of those who sacrificed their lives and those who were injured be somewhat alleviated," he said.

Nahid also emphasised that ensuring justice would prevent any future emergence of fascism.
Speaking on the nation's political future, he proposed holding General Assembly elections alongside the national elections to establish a new constitution and a truly democratic system.

"Through this process, a new structure and a new Bangladesh can be built," he asserted.
Chief Organiser (Southern Region), Hasnat Abdullah, also voiced concerns over the legitimacy of the current administration.
"This government came to power over the blood of students and the people. If justice is not ensured, the entire process will be questioned," he warned.

Hasnat called for an increase in special tribunals to speed up the legal proceedings.
With tensions running high, the party's demand for justice remains unwavering, setting the stage for a potentially turbulent political landscape.
