Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two people with 18 gold bars weighing 2.411 kg worth around Tk 3 crore from a passenger bus in Chuadanga district on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the BGB personnel seized the gold bars at 1:10PM today after searching a bus of ‘Purbasha Paribahan’ coming from Dhaka that left Dhaka for smuggling the gold bars to India through Chuadanga border.
The arrestees have been identified as Md. Rafiqul Islam, 42, from Pirpurkullah village under Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga district, and Md Liton Khan, 26, from Hossainpur village under Debidwar upazila in Comilla district.
Lt. Col. Md. Nazmul Hasan, Commander of BGB's Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) confirmed the seizure of the gold bars and the arrest in a press release.
The BGB also held two passengers for their suspicious behavior. The estimated value of the seized gold bar is Taka 2,93,78,213, reads the release.
A case was lodged with Chuadanga Sadar Police Station in this connection.
