Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has changed the name of the Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium in Purbachal to the National Cricket Ground (NCG).

The decision has been made at the BCB's 18th board meeting held on Monday (March 3).

The construction works halted following the political upheaval of August 5 last.

Originally designed in the shape of a boat and colloquially known as 'The Boat,' the stadium's design is also set to undergo modifications, with the symbolic boat image being removed.

The 2031 ODI World Cup will be held in Bangladesh. For this, the BCB started the construction of the Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium at Purbachal. The stadium, shaped like a boat, was to be financed by the BCB.

The BCB had secured 37.5 acres of land in Purbachal from the then-government at a nominal cost aiming to establish a world-class cricket complex worth approximately 5,000 crore taka.
