A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered the freezing of 44 bank accounts belonging to former minister Amir Hossain Amu, his wife Sayeda Haque and their daughter Sumaiya Hossain.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order in response to an application filed by ACC Assistant Director Abul Kalam Azad on Sunday.

The application stated that Amir Hossain Amu is under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for charges related to bribery, recruitment and tender manipulation, embezzlement of government development funds, money laundering, and the acquisition of assets beyond known sources of income in the names of himself and his family members. The investigation is in its final stages.

According to confidential sources, Amu, his wife and daughter were planning to withdraw and transfer money from their accounts while on the run. In light of this, the freezing of their bank accounts has been deemed necessary to prevent them from accessing and transferring ill-gotten funds and assets.

The investigation continues as part of the ACC's efforts to address corruption and financial misconduct.
