Ending all anticipation, the much-discussed student-public political organization, the 'National Citizens' Party,' has finally emerged. The wide, long Manik Mia Avenue is teeming with people. Everyone has gathered to catch a glimpse of the heroes of '24' up close.
The launch of this new party has drawn a massive crowd to Manik Mia Avenue. Students, youths, and the general public from various districts have flocked to the venue.
The event began with recitations from the Quran, the Gita, the Bible, and the Tripitaka, symbolizing the party’s commitment to secularism and harmony. This was followed by a collective performance of the national anthem. The martyrs of the July uprising were honored with deep respect and a one-minute silence was observed in their memory.
Amid various political speculations, representatives from different political parties, including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, and relatives of July uprising victims attended the event.
Around 5 PM, as young leaders, led by Nahid Islam, the convenor of the National Citizens’ Party took the stage, Manik Mia Avenue echoed with slogans.
Mamunur Rashid, who came from Khulna, expressed his hope, saying "Something good will surely happen in the country. We do not want to see any more fascists here."
Kamrul Hasan, a student of Rajshahi University remarked, "There is no alternative to youth-led leadership to free Bangladesh from corruption, irregularities and lawlessness."
Rickshaw puller Majed Mia said, "I will listen to this gathering first and then start pulling my rickshaw again. They are the ones saving us from Sheikh Hasina’s oppression."
Only time will tell whether this party can bring about change in society and the state based on equality and justice.
