Farmer dies in Rangamati wild elephant attack

A farmer died after being attacked by a wild elephant in Rangamati's Rajasthali upazila on Thursday.

The incident took place around 10:00 AM at Kaitak Para village of Gaindya union in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Usching Marma, 45, son of Kao Marma, a resident of the same village in the upazila.

Confirming the matter, Rajasthali Police Station officer-in-charge Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury that an wild elephant attacked Usaching Marma while he was leaving his house to go to the garden in the morning. He was critically injured on the spot after being crushed by the elephant's feet.

Later, locals rescued him from the spot and took him to a hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

A group of wild elephants often come to the locality in search of food, said Lamuching Marma, a member of Ward No. 6 of Gaindya Union Parishad.
