Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) has permanently expelled four students, including the president and general secretary of the banned student organization Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Additionally, 42 students have been permanently removed from residential halls, and disciplinary actions have been taken against 48 others.
The decision was made on Wednesday, February 26, during a meeting of the university’s Student Disciplinary Committee, chaired by RUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr S M Abdur Razzak.

The expulsion was imposed after the students were found guilty of attacking protesters during the July Uprising and engaging in academic misconduct. The four students expelled for life include Fahmid Latif Leon, president of the banned BCL unit and a student of Civil Engineering department from the 2014–15 session; Saumik Saha, general secretary of the organization and a student of the CSE department from the 2016–17 session; Shashwata Saha Sagar, a student of the Mechanical Engineering department from the 2019–20 session; and Mrinmoy Kanti Biswas, a student of the Civil Engineering department from the 2019–20 session.

In addition to the students, RUET's disciplinary committee found evidence against three university staff members. The accused staff members are Naim Rahman Nibir, assistant engineer from the Engineering Branch; Md. Mahidul Islam, data processor from the Physics Department; and A. K. M. Anwarul Islam, sub-assistant programmer from the Education Branch. The administration has recommended legal action against them.

Based on findings from an August 19 raid last year, 42 students were permanently removed from residential halls for keeping weapons, drugs, and other banned substances in their rooms. Two other students have been expelled for four semesters or two academic years for engaging in exam malpractice.

Professor Dr. Md. Robiul Islam Sarkar, director of the Student Welfare Office and member secretary of the Disciplinary Committee, confirmed the decisions.

He stated that RUET formed an investigation committee based on student complaints, and the accused were found guilty of violating the university’s disciplinary ordinances. The administration emphasized that these strict measures aim to uphold academic integrity and maintain a safe campus environment.
