A dowry case has been filed against Bangladesh national football team player Sheikh Morsalin, alleging that he demanded money to purchase a car.
Sejuti Binte Sohel, identifying herself as Morsalin's wife, filed the case with the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Dhaka on Wednesday (February 26).
The court recorded her statement and issued a summons for Morsalin to appear in court.
According to the complainant's lawyer, Md. Ishfaqur Rahman Galib, Sejuti said, ''I want to continue my marriage. I have filed the dowry case seeking justice.''
The case details claim that Sejuti married Sheikh Morsalin on November 29 last year with a dowry of Tk 10 lakh. Shortly after the marriage, Morsalin allegedly demanded Tk 20 lakh as dowry to purchase a car.
On December 10, 2024, he visited Sejuti's parents' house in Savar and allegedly stated, ''I did not come here to eat; I came to collect the Tk 20 lakh dowry.''
When Sejuti's parents explained their inability to pay the amount, Morsalin reportedly used abusive language and threatened them.
The case is now under judicial consideration, awaiting further proceedings.
