SIRAJGANJ, Feb 25: The forest range activities in Sadar Upazila of the district are running in an unfit tin-shed two room office.

The range office has not its building. Its 100-year-old building was declared abandoned much before. Later on, a tin-shed two room office was built in 1977. Now it has been unfit for use. It lacks sitting place and other facilities. Rain drops water into it damaging important things.

Despite that official works are going on in that risky office.

Forestry activities are carried out by the Sirajganj Range in Sadar, Kamarkand, Chouhali, Shahzadpur and Ullapara upazilas. The work of the office is also hampered due to lack of manpower.

It was supposed to be appointed one each range officer, assistant forest conservator, forest guard, and office assistant in the range office. But the range officer and the forest guard are not posted. Two posts of Mali (gardener) are maintained through outsourcing. An officer is acting in the assistant forest conservator.

Bourtman Altaf Hossain said, "We do a poor salary job, lacking living space and office. But we have to work in risky office."
Assistant Forest Conservator (acting) Rafiqul Islam confirmed the deplored office condition. "The office is unfit, lacking sitting place; door-windows are broken."

He demands construction of an office building soon.

Divisional Forest Officer of the Social Plantation in Pabna Kazi Tarikur Rahman said, an allocation proposal has been sent for construction of forest range office. After getting the allocation, the building will be built, the official added.
