Gold trader shot, robbed of 200 bhori of gold in Banasree, video goes viral

Miscreants shot and injured a businessman named Anwar Hossain (43) in Dhaka's Banasree area and robbed him of about 200 bhori of gold and Tk 100,000 in cash.

The video of the incident, which took place around 10:30 pm on Sunday, has already gone viral on social media. The incident has left the city residents terrified. In the comments of the video, everyone raised questions about the safety of Dhaka city.

Rampura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ataur Rahman Akand said in this regard that the victim's shop is in the Block-D area of Banasree. Every day he returns home from the shop at this time. That day too, the incident occurred on his way home.

The caretaker of a house at the scene has been brought to the police station for questioning in this incident. However, he has not been detained or arrested, he said.

The OC also said that no one has been detained or identified yet. Their teams are at the scene and are collecting CCTV footage from the surrounding area. The police are working to identify the robbers and arrest them quickly.

Meanwhile, the video shows that a total of seven robbers on three motorcycles surrounding the businessman in front of house number 20 on Road number 7 in Banasree Block-D. One robber threw the businessman on the road in front of the gate of a house and snatched a bag from him. Another robber was attacking him with a knife.

At that time, the victim was screaming. When he was trying to stop the robbers from snatching the bag, another robber standing nearby fired several rounds at the businessman. At that time, the victim businessman ran a little to the back, screaming even louder.

The robbery was filmed by local residents from different floors of a nearby building. The people filming the video were also screaming loudly as the robbers stabbed and shot the victim businessman. The robbers then snatched the businessman's bag and fled the scene on three motorcycles.

The 18-second video created a huge uproar on social media. Following the incident, students protested on the Dhaka University campus demanding the resignation of the Home Affairs Adviser. Later, the home adviser called a press conference at his residence around 3 am.

The victim family members who came to the hospital told the reporter that on his way home at night; the robbers shot him and took away about 200 bhori gold and Tk 100,000 in cash. He was first rescued and taken to a private hospital in his injured condition. From there, he was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
