Two elderly people were killed and two others injured by lightning strike in separate incidents in two districts - Rangpur and Natore.
RANGPUR: An elderly woman was killed and her son injured by lightning strike in Badarganj Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The incident took place at Mandalpara of Kaliganj under Bishnupur Union of the upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Sahida Begum, 70, a resident of the area.
Locals said that Sahida Begum and her son Anisur Rahman, 45, were working in a field to harvest potatoes on Sunday morning. At that time, thunderbolt struck them, leaving Shahida dead on the spot and her son injured.
Later on, locals recovered Sahida Begum's body from the scene.
Officer-in-Charge of Badarganj Police Station Atiqur Rahman confirmed the incident.
BAGATIPARA, NATORE: An elderly man was killed and a teenage boy injured by lightning strike in separate incidents in Bagatipara Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Ajab Ali, 70, son of Akali Pramanik, a resident of Nandikuja Kandipara Village in the upazila. He was a fruit seller by profession.
The injured boy is Alif, 15, son of Altaf Hossain of Salaipara Village.
It was known that thunderbolt struck on Ajab Ali on his house yard at around 3 pm, leaving him critically injured. The family members then rescued him, but he died on the way to hospital.
Meanwhile, Alif was also injured by lightning strike on the same day. He is currently undergoing treatment at Bagatipara Upazila Health Complex, confirmed the hospital's Medical Officer Dr Rita Halder.
