Human chain held in Natore demanding road construction

Locals formed a human chain on the Dhakdor-Mohanpur road under Singra upazila in Natore district on Saturday, demanding to complete the under construction road.

Allegedly, the contractor left the 1550 meters long site without completing which causing public sufferings.

The demonstration occurred along the road around 11:00 AM.

According to locals, around 12 thousands people are victims especially the farmers who used to transport their crops using the damaged road.

In addition, local students and teachers also facing the sufferings.

A caretaker Sohel Rana, on be half of the construction company, said that the company owned by a former Awami League (AL) Member of Parliament’s brother in law Amirul Islam Jahan. He is being fugitive since AL government fall in August 5 that’s why the work is suspended.

According to a nameplate of the road, former ICT minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the construction site to implement with LGED Singra, Natore back in 2018.

Following the matter, upazila deputy assistant engineer Rahmat Ali said that approximately 1000 meters have been completed, however, about 550 meters of the work yet to be done.

It was not possible to complete this road work due to the contractor's negligence, he added.

The upazila engineer Ahmed Rafiq said that letters have been sent to the company for several times.

Further legal actions would be taken in this regard.
