A three-day international symposium on spectrum management began in Dhaka on Tuesday, organized by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The three-day symposium, organized at a hotel in the capital from February 18 to February 20, is being attended by about 200 representatives of telecommunications and information technology regulatory agencies, telecom operators, government and private sector officials, and telecom and information technology experts from host Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Iran and other countries.
The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) has welcomed its associate member organizations, including CISCO and INMARSAT of Singapore, GSMA (Hong Kong), KDDI Corporation of Japan, Global Satellite Operators Association, Amazon, Meta, Starlink, Qualcomm India, Huawei Technologies, Telenor Asia, Palace Consulting of Australia, and the National Institute of Communications and Technology of Japan.
Md Mushfiqur Rahman, Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications, said as chief guest of the symposium that radio spectrum is a scarce and valuable resource whose proper utilization is very important. Proper utilization of spectrum plays a vital role in the socio-economic and technological development of a country.
He further said that as the focal organization, the member countries of the Asia Pacific Telecommunication Community (APTC) will be able to utilize the full potential of the telecommunications sector through the exchange of technical knowledge and ideas through this symposium.
