NAOGAON, Feb 19: A local leader of Awami League (AL), who was jailed in the district for transaction fake Indian currency, died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Siddiq Hosain Molla, 45, a resident of Gopalpur Village under Paranpur Union in Manda Upazila of Naogaon. He was the organizing secretary of the union unit of AL.
According to the case statement, Siddiq was arrested along with one Kariappa Chowdhury from Gopalpur Bazaar while transacting fake Indian currency on February 4, 2025. During the drive, police also recovered fake Indian Rupee worth around Tk 13.75 lakh from their possession.
According to police, prisoner Siddiq Molla felt sick at around 12 pm on Monday and was taken to Naogaon Sadar Hospital. Later on, he was shifted to the RMCH, where he died at around 9 pm on Tuesday while undergoing treatment.
Naogaon Jail Superintendent Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter.
