Road mishaps claim seven lives in five districts

Seven people including a woman and three school students were killed and at least 11 others injured in separate road accidents in five districts - Gopalganj, Rajbari, Chattogram, Kishoreganj and Kushtia.
GOPALGANJ: Two people including a journalist were killed in separate road accidents in Kashiani and Muksudpur upazilas of the district.
A man was killed and at least 11 others were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger ous and a covered van in Kashiani Upazila on Wednesday.
The accident took place in Pona Bus Stand area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway of the upazila at around 7:30 am.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kashiani Police Station (PS) Md Shafiuddin Khan said that a passenger bus of 'Falguni Paribahan' was going to Khulna from Dhaka. On the way, the bus collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound covered van coming from the opposite direction near Pona Bus Stand in the morning, which left one person dead on the spot and at least 11 others injured.
Later on, police and Fire Service personnel rescued the injured and took them to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex.
Of the injured, the conditions of five were stated to be critical.
However, the Dhaka-Khulna highway has been blocked for nearly two hours due to the accident.
On the other hand, a journalist was killed in another road accident in Muksudpur Upazila on Monday.
The accident took place in Bhangapole area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway of the upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam, 35, a resident of Bashbaria Village in the upazila. He was a reporter of Dainik 71 Bangladesh.
Confirming the incident, Bhanga Highway Police Inspector Rokibuzzaman said that Rafiqul fell on the highway after losing control over the steering of his motorcycle in Bhangapole area at noon, which left him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and handed it over to the deceased's family members, the police official added.
RAJBARI: A housewife was killed after being hit by a truck in Sadar Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The accident took place in Baharpur area on the Rajbari-Baliakandi road under the upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sheuli Sanyal, 50, wife of Arup Kumar Sanyal, a resident of Haatgram area under Kalukhali Upazila in the district.
The deceased's son Abhijit Kumar Sanyal said that he along with his mother was returning home from Baliakandi to their rented house in Wazed Plaza area of the district town in the afternoon riding on his father's motorcycle. On the way, the motorcycle lost control over its steering, which left Sheuli Sanyal fell on the road. At that time, a truck hit her, leaving her seriously injured.
Injured Sheuli was then rescued and taken to Rajbari Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
A case was filed with Rajbari Sadar PS in this regard.
CHATTOGRAM: A teenage girl died after falling from a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and being crushed by a bus in Banshkhali Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The accident occurred in Chechuria area under Bailchhari Union of the upazila at around 11 am.
The deceased was identified as Monika Akhter, 14, daughter of Nasir Uddin, a resident of Matarbari Uttar Rajghat area under Maheshkhali Upazila in Cox's Bazar District.
The deceased's mother Sajeda Begum said that they were going to Banshkhali from Chattogram City riding on a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw. On the way, Monika suddenly fell on the road from the running auto-rickshaw. Just at that time, a bus ran over Monika, leaving her dead on the spot.
Banshkhali PS OC Md Saiful Islam confirmed the incident.
KISHOREGANJ: Two schoolboys were killed in a road accident in Katiadi Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The accident took place in Katiadi Madhyapara area on the Kishoreganj-Bhairab highway under the upazila at around 10 am.
The deceased were identified as Ali Akbar, 13, son of Faruq, and Junayed, 12, son of Ferdous. Both of them were residents of the same area.
Police and local sources said that a bus hit a motorcycle carrying the duo in Katiadi Madhyapara area on the highway in the morning, leaving Ali Akbar dead on the spot and Junayed critically injured.
Locals then rescued Junayed and rushed to a hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Katiadi PS OC Tariqul Islam confirmed the incident.
DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: A schoolboy was killed in a road accident in Daulatpur Upazila of the district on Monday.
The accident took place in Mathurapur area of the upazila at around 12 pm.
The deceased was identified as Shakib Mandal, 12, son of Akib Mondal, a resident of Salimpur Village in the upazila. He was a fifth grader of Salimpur Model School.
Confirming the incident, Daulatpur PS OC Nazmul Huda said that a speedy trolley coming from the opposite direction hit Shakib in Mathurapur area at noon when he was going to their betel leaf orchard, which left him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Filing of a case with Daulatpur PS is underway in this regard, the OC added.
