LOHAGARA, CHATTOGRAM, Feb 19: Thousands of people are using a deplorable wood and bamboo made bridge over the Tonkaboti Khal (canal) in Uttar Amirabad Village at Amirabad Union in Lohagara Upazila of the district, taking life risk.
The bridge has been deplorable for the last 15 years, causing immense public sufferings.
People of Mahuri Para Ghonapara, Chowdhuripara, Rahat Ali and other villages in the upazila are suffering from communications.
About 15 years back, the bridge was built by locals at their own cost. During the rainy season, it collapses, and, in the dry season, it is repaired again. In the rainy season, students and adult people suffer on the bridge seriously.
In the opposite direction of the bridge, there are Uttar Amirabad Government Primary School, Uttar Amirabad M.B. High School, Baro Awlia Degree College, and other institutions. Students and teachers of these institutions are facing communication problem.
Local public representatives only gave assurance of a bridge over the last 15 years.
A local, Mohammad Ali said, "On rainy day we have to suffer seriously in passing the canal. Member and chairman gave us assurance of a bridge. But he didn't keep word."
A HSC student said, "From the childhood we have been going to school and college taking troubles. We demand a bridge here from the government."
Lohagara Upazila Engineer Irfan Bin Munir said, on the necessity basis, adequate measures will be taken for a bridge.
