Barapukuria Power Plant halts operations amid mechanical failures

The Barapukuria Power Plant in Dinajpur has been forced to cease operations entirely due to multiple mechanical failures, including a boiler leakage, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Abu Bakkar Siddique, the plant's chief engineer, stated, "Since the issue is mechanical, it is difficult to predict when operations will resume. We are currently procuring the necessary equipment for repairs domestically."
The 525MW plant has seen all three of its units shut down due to separate technical issues. Unit 1 (125MW) experienced a boiler pipe leakage on Tuesday, while Unit 3 (275MW) encountered a pipe and bearing failure on February 15. Unit 2 (125MW) has been non-operational for several months due to a prior mechanical fault.

The shutdown has raised concerns about power supply in the region, with authorities working to expedite repairs and restore operations as soon as possible.
