Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib has ordered to freeze a total of 20 bank accounts of former State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu and his wife, Sima Hamid.
The decision came after an application submitted by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Aminul Islam on Wednesday (February 19).
According to court records, these bank accounts hold a total of Tk 21,097,116.
ACC has alleged that the accused amassed assets worth Tk 69,854,964 through sources inconsistent with their declared income.
In addition, irregular and suspicious transactions have been identified, including total deposits of Tk 127,786,699 and withdrawals amounting to Tk 111,849,818 across the 20 accounts.
A case has been registered against the duo at the ACC district office in Dhaka-1 under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004; Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012; and Section 109 of the Penal Code.
Sources indicate that following the initiation of the case, the accused attempted to withdraw funds from their accounts.
ACC warned that without prompt action, the unaccounted wealth could grow further.
