The authorities of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) have suspended 12 teachers affiliated with Awami League from the university temporarily for their alleged involvement in taking position against the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Wednesday.
The university also suspended its 7 officials and 11 staff from the university temporarily for the same allegation.
The decision was made at a meeting held on the campus in Dhaka with SAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Abdul Latif in the chair.
The suspended teachers' are Professor Dr M Haun-Ur-Rashid, Professor Dr Shormin Chowdhury, Professor Dr Forhad Hossain, Professor Dr Ayesha Akter, Professor Dr Jahir Raihan, Ruhul Amin, Choity De Puja, Dr Chabera Yasmin, M Omar Ali Mallik, Dr Deb Kumar Bhattacharjya, Oli Ahad Setu, and Ziaur Rahman Bhuiyan.
SAU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Belal Hossain said that the university administration issued an suspension order against 12 teachers, 7 officials and 11 staff following an investigation report submitted by a seven-member probe body formed against them.
The university authorities, in the syndicate meeting, formed a three-member inquiry committee to take permanent action against them, he added.
Campus sources said that the teachers, officials and staff have been suspended after inspecting the allegation brought against them by the teachers and students of the university.
The information has been sent to the ministry concerned regarding the university's former VC Professor Dr Shahidur Rahman Bhuiyan, former Pro-VC Alok Kumar Paul and former Treasurer Nazrul Islam of their taking position against the students' movement.
