Three killed in Savar road accidents

Three individuals, including an auto-rickshaw driver and two pedestrians, killed in separate road accidents at Ashulia in Savar.

The incidents occurred at Polashbari, Sreepur and Ashulia area on the Nabinagar-Chandra highway.

The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Badu; Abu Taher,28, son of the late Mohammad Mostafa from Bokshabari village under Baliakandi upazila in Rajbari district, and Lili Begum, wife of Afsar Ali from Madhya Chikanmati village in Nilphamari district.

Savar Highway Police confirmed the deaths on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the highway police, a speeding Shyamoli Paribahan bus hit three auto-rickshaws in a row at the Polashbari area on Tuesday night and fled the scene, leaving auto-rickshaw driver Badu dead on the spot, while two other were sustained injuries.

An unidentified vehicle ran over and killed Lili Begum at Ashulia area on the highway on Wednesday afternoon.

Another unidentified vehicle on the Dhaka-bound lane of the highway caused the death of Taher on Wednesday afternoon.

On information, Savar Highway Police recovered the bodies of the deceased.

Police also seized the Shyamoli Paribahan bus involved in the incident, although the bus driver and his assistant managed to flee.

Savar Highway Police officer-in-charge (OC) Saugatul Alam confirmed the deaths and said that the bodies of Abu Taher and Lili Begum had been handed over to their families after completing the legal formalities.

Badu’s body has been sent to a hospital morgue for an autopsy, added the OC.
