Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza granted a three-day remand three more accused in connection with the assault of a couple in Uttara on Wednesday.

The accused are Md Alfaz Mia alias Shishir, 22, Sajib, 20, and Mehedi Hasan Saif, 24.

During the hearing, Uttara West Police Station sub-inspector Md. Din Islam had requested a 7-day remand for the suspects to ensure a thorough investigation.

However, defense lawyers sought cancellation of the remand and applied for bail.

Ultimately, the court granted a 3-day remand for the three accused.

This case follows an earlier order on February 18, when two other suspects, Mobarak Hossain and Rabbi Roy, were remanded for two days.

The incident unfolded along Road No. 9, Sector 7 in Uttara on Monday night (february 17). Members of a local juvenile gang were reportedly riding motorcycles and honking loudly. A couple identified as Mokbul and his wife Ifti, who were in a rickshaw, protested against the noise.

The gang then gathered around 20-25 members and brutally attacked the couple in public.

A viral video circulating on social media shows two young men, wearing white and olive-coloured shirts, attacking a man and a woman with machetes.

At one point, the woman is seen pleading with the attackers for mercy.

Eventually, locals caught the two gang members, beat them up, and handed them over to the police.

Nasrin Akhtar Ifti, one of the victims, filed a case with Uttara West Police Station on Tuesday morning in this regard.
