A mobile court has demolished illegal structures including shops, hotels, and other unauthorized constructions that had been erected on the sides of highways and roads, including footpaths at Savar upazila in the capital.
The mobile court led by Savar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive magistrate Zahirul Alam conducted a drive to remove the illegal shops on the footpath and roads at the C&B bus stand area on the Ashulia road.
The commuters traveling on this road expressed relief after the footpaths and roads were cleared of encroachments.
A student of Savar City University Sadia Afruz mentioned that she often get stuck in traffic for about an hour because the road is already narrow, and illegal structures on the road and footpaths have been rented out.
A private sector employee Humayun Kabir welcomed the eviction of illegal structures urged the administration and law enforcement agencies to ensure that these illegal establishments do not reappear and that proper monitoring continues.
Executive Magistrate Zahirul Alam mentioned that in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on March 26, a preparatory meeting was held to identify points where traffic jams occur along the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.
He said that based on the decisions from the meeting, a joint operation involving the upazila administration, Highway Police, and Savar Model Police Station was carried out.
Additionally, strict action will be taken against anyone who sets up new structures along the road, also added the Executive Magistrate.
