Jaeem, Rifat to lead IUJA

Tajmul Haque Jaeem of Naya Diganta and Rakib Rifat of Daily Inqilab have been elected president and general secretary respectively of the Islamic University Journalists’ Association (IUJA).

The election was held at the press corner on the campus in Kushtia from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah announced the committee for the next one year.

The other members of the committee are- Mutasim Billah Riyad of channel 24 (vice-president), Juel Rana of Daily Observer (joint-secretary), Niamotullah Munim of Khoborer Kagoj (treasurer), Mahmudul Hasan of Jaijaidin (office secretary), Morshed Mamun of Kalbela (publicity secretary), Edul Hasan Farhan of Dinkal, and Jamal Uddin of Daily Shikkha Barta are executive members.

IU Student Advisor Professor Dr Obayedul Islam conducted the election as chief election commissioner while IUJA former secretary Shahjahan Nabin, and former president Emran Shuvro were the assistant election commissioners. IU proctor Professor Dr Shahinuzzaman was moderator.

The VC later addressed the charge handing over ceremony as the chief guest while Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Yeakub Ali was present there.

IU UTAB president Professor Dr Tojammel Hossen, Lalon Shah hall provost Professor Dr Akhtar Hossen, Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies department Professor Dr Mostafizur Rahman, Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam, Fine Arts department chairman Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan and different studentorganizations including Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Dal, Students Union, and Anti-Discrimination Students Movement coordinator were present on the occasion.

Newly elected President Tajmul Haque Jaeem said that the Islamic University Journalists' Association (IUJA) had been working courageously for the welfare of the campus since its establishment.

They sought cooperation from all to conduct their responsibilities smoothly, he added.

IU authorities, different teacher and student organizations congratulated the newly elected IUJA committee.

Addressing the programme, the VC said, 'I am happy to see all the studentorganizations under one roof. I, on behalf of the administration, wish to see this environment everywhere. Thus Islamic University will become a role model for others', he added.
