A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for three leaders of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), including its central joint general secretary and President of Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall unit Benazir Hossain Nishi, in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Kalabagan Police Station.
The other two accused are BCL leaders Kawsar and Ramzan.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M. A. Azharul Islam issued the order after police produced the accused before court and sought a seven-day remand for each On Wednesday (February 19).
The investigating officer of the case, Kalabagan Police Station sub-inspector Tarek Mohammad Masum requested the remand to further investigate their alleged involvement in subversive activities.
However, the defense counsel appealed for bail and sought the dismissal of the remand petition.
After hearing both sides, the court granted a five-day remand for each.
According to the case statement, a group of 100–150 individuals, including the accused, gathered on the road in front of Al Baraka Restaurant in Panthapath under Kalabagan Police Station on December 13. Using the banner of the banned BCL, they allegedly organized a procession aimed to spread anti-government propaganda.
