Students of Khulna University of Science and Technology (KUET) gave an ultimatum to press home their five-point demands, including ban on student politics on campus and resignation of Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Mashud, hours after clashes that left at least 50 injured.
They warned that they would boycott classes and examinations and be forced to suspend academic activities if their demands were not met by 1PM on Wednesday.
On Tuesday night at a press briefing, the students presented their demands.
They alleged that the Chhatra Dal, local BNP leaders and activists carried out planned attacks on university students.
Contacted, VC Prof Dr Masud Rahman told UNB that he has received the five-point demand placed by the students.
He, however, made no remarks regarding the steps on the demands.
On Tuesday afternoon, clashes began at KUET over a restriction on student politics and it continue till evening. More than 50 people were injured in the clashes.
After the clashes, two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed on the campus to bring the situation under control. The injured are undergoing treatment at various clinics in the vicinity, including Khulna Medical College Hospital and KUET Medical Center.
Protesting the attack incidents, the anti-discrimination students held a rally and marched at Dhaka University campus on Tuesday night.
The central committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), a pro-BNP student body, sent a team to Kuet at night to investigate what happened there and report in 24 hours.
