Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince on Tuesday said, "If the government does not immediately focus on conducting the national election, instability will increase in the country."
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner in Dhaka, they also said they want the national election within this year before any local government polls.
Prince said the government's main task at the moment is to make whatever reforms necessary for a fair and acceptable election and transfer power to elected representatives.
Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) General Secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz said, "The Election Commission told us that they are ready for the national election. We told them to swiftly release the national election schedule without further delay."
CPB President Mohammad Shah Alam said, "There is a debate on whether the national election should be held first or local government elections. We think that the government is wasting time through this counter process."
Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist) General Secretary Masud Rana said, "Most political parties think that the national election should be held before any other polls. So, we are expecting that this opinion will be reflected in the government's decision."
