The Commerce Ministry is strengthening its market monitoring in the upcoming month of Ramadan when three teams will start watching market in Dhaka city from Wednesday.
This decision was made at a workshop organized with the team leaders for market monitoring to regulate prices of daily commodities to keep market stable. The teams gathered at the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Commerce Secretary (Routine Responsibilities) Abdur Rahim was the chief guest at the workshop.
Addressing the team leaders at the workshop, the Commerce Secretary said Market Supervision Team of the Ministry of Commerce should regularly supervises the markets in city and at district level through a special task force with support of the district administration.
In addition, the National Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection will also supervise the markets. In this way, illegal hoarders and unscrupulous traders cannot destabilize the market. the secretary said
The officials of the Ministry of Commerce will have to be supervised more closely, focusing on Ramadan, he said.
He said although two teams regularly monitor the markets in Dhaka city, three teams will monitor the markets every day from tomorrow on the occasion of Ramadan.
Stating that six teams work regularly through the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, he said ten teams will be monitoring in the upcoming Ramadan.
In addition, to increase public awareness, the Ministry of Commerce will distribute leaflets and implement run miking activities through the Local Market Committee.
It was also informed the workshop that will monitoring activities will continue in raw vegetables markets, grocery stores and supermarkets to keep the daily market stable.
