Community Radio Meghna celebrates 10th anniversary

Radio Meghna 99.0 FM, celebrated its 10th anniversary on Tuesday, February 18, under the motto "Radio Meghna: First with the Coastal People."

The day-long festivities began with a vibrant rally at 9:00 AM, starting from the Charfassion Coast Foundation office and winding through the city’s main roads before concluding at the Charfassion Upazila Parishad square.
At 10:00 AM, a formal ceremony was held at the Charfassion Upazila Parishad hall, featuring a cake-cutting event and a discussion session. Charfassion Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rasna Sharmin Mithi attended as the chief guest, while Radio Meghna Station Manager and COAST Foundation’s Assistant Director Rashida Begum moderated the program. Special guests included Assistant Commissioner (Land) Emadul Islam, Upazila Social Service Officer Md. Mamun Hossain, Charfassion Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman, and Charfassion Hospital Resident Medical Officer Mahabub Kabir.

The event also saw participation from local political leaders, journalists, Red Crescent representatives, Radio Meghna listeners, COAST Foundation staff, and artists.

In her address, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rasna Sharmin Mithi praised Radio Meghna for its vital role in the community. “Radio Meghna is a crucial voice in our region, especially during natural disasters when power outages are common. It provides timely news and information, often being the first source of updates for the people of Charfassion,” she said.

She also highlighted the station’s contributions to education, health, and disaster preparedness, as well as its efforts to address issues like teenage pregnancy and child marriage. “Radio Meghna’s work during the COVID-19 pandemic and its support for fishermen and farmers have been invaluable. The people of Charfassion deeply appreciate its services,” she added, extending her congratulations and wishes for continued success.

Radio Meghna, which began its journey on February 18, 2015, has completed a decade of dedicated service to the coastal communities of Charfassion. The anniversary celebration not only honored its past achievements but also reaffirmed its commitment to being a trusted voice for the people in the years to come.
