A Dhaka court on Tuesday imposed a travel ban on former lawmaker from Jashore-3 constituency Kazi Nabil Ahmed and his family members.
Nabil's mother and two brothers have also been barred from leaving the country.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Rezaul Karim.
According to the petition, an investigation is underway into allegations that various subsidiary companies of Jemcon Group were involved in bank fraud and money laundering. Reliable sources have indicated that the individuals in question may attempt to flee the country, which could hinder the investigation process. The ACC argued that a travel restriction was necessary to ensure a proper inquiry.
After reviewing the petition, the court approved the travel ban.
Kazi Nabil Ahmed is a former lawmaker and a director of Jemcon Group. He has also served as the vice president of the Bangladesh Football Federation and as chairman of the national team’s committee. Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, 2024, he went missing. His residence in Jashore was allegedly vandalised and set on fire by local residents.
