A tribunal in Dhaka on Tuesday granted bail to TikToker Abdullah Al Mamun, also known as Prince Mamun, in a rape case.

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Judge Sabera Sultana Khanam issued the bail order after holding hearing on a petition. The court also accepted the chargesheet in the case.

Mamun earlier this morning surrendered before the court and prayed for bail.
The case was initially filed on June 9, 2022, at Cantonment Police Station in Dhaka by the plaintiff, Laila Akter Farhad, a female TikToker. The following night, police in Cumilla arrested Mamun.

He was later granted bail by the court on July 1.

According to the case statement, Mamun and Laila first connected on Facebook three years ago and eventually developed a romantic relationship. Mamun allegedly promised to marry her and citing a lack of personal accommodation in Dhaka, moved into Laila’s residence with his mother on January 7, 2022. From that day, he started living in the same room with Laila and allegedly engaged in physical relations under the pretext of marriage.

While staying at Laila’s residence, Mamun’s parents would occasionally visit. When Laila repeatedly pressured him for marriage, Mamun reportedly avoided the topic with various excuses. The complaint further states that on March 14, 2022, Mamun allegedly raped Laila once again. When she confronted him about marriage, he became angry and verbally abused her.
