Judge Rafikul Islam of Speedy Tribunal-1, Dhaka ordered on Monday the withdrawal of the arrest warrant issued against BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman in connection with the 21st August grenade attack case. The decision, made in response to a petition from the prosecution, comes in line with directives issued by the High Court.

Previously, on December 1 in 2024 a bench of the High Court comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain had acquitted all the accused in the case. Despite the acquittals, several of the accused, including Tarique Rahman had been absconding, which had led to the issuance of the arrest warrants against them.

After the High Court's instructions were communicated to the lower judicial authorities, the prosecution filed an application seeking the withdrawal of the warrants against Tarique Rahman and others. Acting on this request, Judge Rafikul Islam confirmed the withdrawal of the previously issued arrest warrant.
