Though Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam, one of the key organizers of July-August Uprising, is set to resign from the interim government to join the proposed students-youths led political party, Advisers Mahfuz Alam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan are likely to continue representing the students in the government.

They are not joining the new party, which is likely to be floated on February 24, at this stage. They may join the party after June this year, according to the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement (ADSM) and the National Citizen's Commi-ttee (Jatiya Nagorik Committee-NCC) sources.

The sources stated that Nahid Islam, also the Adviser for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, is expected to resign from the government within next four to five days to lead the new party as its Convener. The name of the new party, initiated by the ADSM and NCC, is expected to be finalised this week.

Samanta Sharmin, spokesperson of NCC, told the Daily Observer, "There has been no definite decision that Nahid Islam is joining. The selection of individuals for various positions, including the member secretary, is still under discussion. We aim to gather opinions from everyone before making a final decision for each position."

By this time, the party's name and key structural decisions are expected to be finalised. Official launch, marked by the formation of a convening committee, is likely to take place on or around February 24.

However, the appointment for the second-highest position, Member Secretary, remains undecided.

Ariful Islam Adib, Joint Convener of NCC, confirmed that Nahid Islam is the unanimous choice for party leader, while Akhtar Hossain, Nasiruddin Patwari, and Sarjis Alam from NCC remain in contention for the second-in-command role. Hasnat Abdullah, the convener of the ADSM, is also emerging as a leading contender for the position.

Sources within the NCC indicate growing competition for the second-highest post in the party, with various factions lobbying for their preferred candidates. Former leaders of the Islami Chhatra Shibir within the committee are particularly active, while centrist and left-leaning members also seek to secure top leadership positions.

Notably, Mirza Galib, the former president of Dhaka University Chhatra Shibir, criticised the National Citizen Committee for failing to create an inclusive, democratic political platform that includes madrasa students and Shibir members.

Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary, NCC highlighted the need for a Constituent Assembly election to draft and implement a new constitution.

He stated, "If such an election takes place, the party will focus on selecting the most qualified candidates. Given Bangladesh's political landscape, our alliance could also include many other individuals."

Abdul Hannan Masud, the chief organizer of the ADSM, praised Akhtar Hossain for his leadership in anti-fascist politics and his consistent opposition to Chhatra League, expressing his support for him and urging against any conspiracies.

Alongside forming the new party, leaders are also considering establishing a student organisation. However, it will not be named the Anti-discrimination Students Movement, as that platform will continue its role independently. The National Citizen's Committee will also remain active distinctively, with members from both groups expected to transition into the new political party.

The proposed student organisation is still in the early planning stages, and its name has not yet been determined.
