A new student organization is emerging, distancing itself from the existing Anti-Discrimination Students Movement (ADSM) and political ties in order to participate in the Dhaka University Central Students' Organization (DUCSU) election.
On Monday at around 4:30pm, a faction of the ADSM announced this at a press conference at Modhu's Canteen, Dhaka University.
Rifat Rashid, a member of the central executive committee of ADSM, clarified that the initiative is entirely independent, with no links to the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement or any emerging political parties.
He said, "We hope every student in this country will engage in student politics and establish new organisations. This is also a part of such initiatives. It will operate under its own constitution and policies."
While the organisation's structure is being defined, its official launch date remains undecided, as public opinion surveys are still ongoing. Additionally, no final decision has been made regarding its name, which will be determined based on public input. Speaking on factional politics, other speakers highlighted the importance of independent decision-making, stating that the organisation must function without external interference.
Unlike most student bodies in Bangladesh, where leadership is determined by parent organisations, this group aims to elect its leaders through internal counselling and a democratic process.
