A female candidate and her sister were apprehended on Monday on charges of cheating in the Jahangirnagar University (JU) undergraduate admission test for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The incident occurred on Monday during the second shift for being admitted to the Social Sciences faculty.
The accused Parmita Datta Bhumi and her sister Nibedita Datta daughter of Noyon Chandra Datta and hail from Sadar Upazila of Kishoreganj District.
The proctorial body revealed that Parmita was sitting the exam in Room 19 of the Business Studies faculty centre during the second shift of the exam on the last day of admissions tests.
She was filling out her OMR sheet by referring to her mobile phone, which drew the attention of the on-duty invigilator.
The invigilator then informed the disciplinary committee, who subsequently brought her to the proctor's office for the interrogation, according to the proctorial body.
Later, she was taken into custody of the proctorial body for interrogation.
Following the interrogation, she confessed that she adopted unfair means and her sister's involvement with the forgery.
As she confessed, the proctorial body detained her sister from outside the exam for her involvement with the forgery.
JU Proctor AKM Rashidul Alam said, "They confessed their involvement and we handed over them to Ashulia Police. The university authorities will lodge a case after specifying the section for the case."
