Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin has called on Japan's top investors to increase their investment in Bangladesh while calling for importing more goods and manpower from Bangladesh.
He made this call in a bilateral meeting with Japan's top business representatives in Tokyo on Monday. A press release from the Ministry of Commerce disclosed it on Monday.
Bashiruddin is currently on a visit to Tokyo. He said the bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Japan is about US$ 4 billion at the moment. Japan is one of the top five export destinations of Bangladesh.
"Currently, more than 350 Japanese companies are operating in Bangladesh. We expect more investment from Japan," he said.
Describing Japan as an important strategic partner of Bangladesh, the trade advisor said, "We are proud of our relationship with Japan. They are one of our close friends and major development partners."
The top business representatives of Japan have assured them of continuing their business and increasing their investment in Bangladesh.
Also present at the meeting were Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Dawood Ali, JETRO Representative Luigi Ando, JICA Representative Yasuzuki Murahashi, and Commercial Counselor to Japan Morarji Desai Burman.
