A case has been filed against 42 students of University of Barishal (BU) over vandalized the entrance gate of the Vice Chancellor’s (VC) residence.

Assistant register (security branch) of the university, KM Sanwar Parvez Liton filed the case with Barishal Metropolitan Bandar Police Station on Sunday (February 16).
According to the case statement, BU VC, Dr Suchita Sharmin, is the main witness of this case while Assistant Proctor Marufa Akter, Md Saiful Islam, Dr Sonia Khan Sony and Md Elias Hosain are the other witnesses.

With 42 accused, 25 others unknown also included in this case.

Barishal Bandar Police Station officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.

However, following the case, pro-VC Dr Golam Rabbani said that this matter might be resolved through a discussion. The decision of filing a case against the students is not appropriate either.

The VC Dr Suchita stated that legal investigation is ongoing about the matter. If the students apologize, the case would be withdrawn.

Earlier, a group of BU students entered the VC’s residence by breaking into the gate, and obstructed a syndicate meeting on February 14.

The meeting was organised by the VC Suchita Sharmin at 3:00 PM in that day, however, students started a protest in front of the residence from noon, accusing the meeting of trying to rehabilitate Awami League supporters. Then the protesters stopped syndicate members from entering the VC's residence.

Upon learning that four officials who are affiliated with the AL were already present in the syndicate meeting, they broke the gate of the residence and chanting slogans against VC. They urged the syndicate members to leave the VC's residence within five minutes.
