A Dhaka court on Monday placed former head of news at Ekattor Television Shakil Ahmed and its principal correspondent Farzana Rupa on a five-day fresh remand in a murder case filed with Mirpur Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaque issued the order after CID inspector Nasir Uddin Sarkar, the investigating officer in the case, petitioned for a five-day remand, public prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi confirmed.
Faruqi, representing the state, moved for the motion. Then the court made its decision.
Anwar Hossain Patwary was shot dead at Mirpur in the capital on August 5 during the student movement.
His father Al Amin Patwary filed a murder case with the Mirpur Model Police Station.
Ekattor Media Ltd fired the journalist couple on August 8.
The couple were arrested from Shahjalal International Airport on August 21, 2024.
