A couple was killed and their daughter injured after being hit by a pick-up van in the capital's Jatrabari on Monday.
The accident occurred around 7 am on the road opposite of Saddam Market in Jatrabari's Matuail.
The dead were Runa Akter and her husband Abdul Jabbar, hailed from Islampur upazila in Jamalpur. Their daughter Jui Akter, 14, was injured in the accident.
Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahmudul Hasan Irfan said that the three were crossing the road on the opposite side of Saddam Market at Matuail in the morning. At that time, a speeding pick-up van ran over them. Runa Khan died on the spot. Abdul Jabbar died at a local hospital. The injured Jui is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical Hospital.
He said that the pick-up van has been seized. However, its driver has fled.
Relatives of the victims said one of their relatives died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The three were going there to see him.
