Bangladesh is experiencing a strong start to February 2025, with $1.31 billion in remittances received in the first 15 days of the month. This positive trend follows a record-breaking performance in December 2024 and continued strong inflows throughout January.
The Bangladesh Bank's latest data reveal on Sunday states that remittance inflows reached $1.31 billion in the first half of February. Government banks handled $466 million, while specialized banks (including Krishi Bank with $89 million) played a significant role. Private banks processed $754 million, and foreign banks contributed approximately $3 million.
The country's remittance inflows have been consistently strong in recent months. January 2025 saw a total of $2.19 billion in remittances. December 2024 set an all-time record with $2.64 billion, surpassing the previous high of $2.59 billion in July 2020.
Eleven banks reported zero remittance inflows during the specified period, including Bangladesh Development Bank (BDBL), Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, Community Bank, Citizens Bank, ICB Islamic Bank, Padma Bank, Habib Bank, National Bank of Pakistan, State Bank of India, and Uree Bank.
