The students from different departments on Sunday issued a 12-hour ultimatum to Barishal University (BU) authorities protesting against the rehabilitation of Awami League supporters at the university.

They gave the ultimatum in a press conference held at the ground floor of the university’s Academic Building at noon.

The students presented five messages to the university administration through the press conference.

The messages are as follows;

1. The case filed by the university administration against students joining in the ongoing rational movement for the rehabilitation of Awami fascists at the university must be withdrawn within 6 hours.

2. The names of the syndicate members must be revealed immediately and university teachers must be included here, excluding the supporters of Awami League.

3. The registrar, who is an ally of AL and involved in women's scandal, must be removed soon from the university as early as possible.

4. A committee of teachers should be formed for the student parliament and a roadmap should be announced within 72 hours. The leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, who attacked on the student movement during July Mass Uprising, must be brought to low.

5. The progress on the demands of the students placed on December 3, including the construction of university infrastructure and resolving the student housing crisis, must be clarified to the students within 12 hours.

Mosharraf Hossain, a student of BU History department said that the Vice-Chancellor Suchita Sharmin has been trying to find a way to rehabilitate Awami League supporters in the university since his appointment.

They would intensify their protest on the campus if their demands were not met soon, he added.

On February 14, a group of students of the university entered the vice-chancellor's residence by breaking the gate, and obstructed a syndicate meeting organised by the VC.

The students started a protest in front of the VC's residence, accusing the meeting of trying to rehabilitate Awami League supporters.

The protesters stopped syndicate members from entering the VC's residence. Upon learning that four members were already inside to attend the syndicate meeting, they broke the gate of the residence and started shouting anti-VC slogans. They urged the syndicate members to leave the VC's residence within five minutes.
