A four-day director general-level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India's Border Security Force (BSF) is set to commence in New Delhi on Monday.
A 13-member delegation from Bangladesh, led by BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, will participate in the discussions, according to Mohammad Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer at BGB Headquarters.
The delegation also includes senior BGB officials and representatives from the Office of the Chief Adviser, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Land Records and Survey, and the Joint Rivers Commission.
Key issues on the agenda include preventing border incidents such as shootings, killings, injuries, detentions, or abductions of unarmed Bangladeshi nationals. Discussions will also focus on curbing smuggling activities, particularly the trafficking of drugs, arms, ammunition, and other contraband from India into Bangladesh.
Additionally, both sides will address illegal border crossings, with special attention to the forced entry of displaced Myanmar nationals through the Indian border. The establishment of unauthorized infrastructure, including barbed wire fences within 150 yards of the border, will also be discussed. Efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, mutual trust, and cooperation will be a key focus.
The conference will conclude on February 20, with the Bangladesh delegation scheduled to return home the same day.
