26 workers abducted from Bandarban rubber garden

A total of 26 workers havereportedly been abducted from rubber gardens at Lama upazila in Bandarban district early Sunday.

The incident occurred at remote Murungjiri area under Fasiyakhali Union in the upazila at around 2:00 AM on Sunday.

The victims are identified as Mohammad Mobarak, 25, Mohammad Khairul Amin, 30, Mohammad Imran Hossain, 17, Mohammad Manjur Alam , 30, Mohammad Ayub Ali , 26, Mohammad Siddique , 40, Mohammad Abdul Khalek, 20, Mohammad Abdul Majeed, 17, Monirul Islam ,30, Mohammad Faruk, 26, Ziaur Rahman, 45, Mohammad Harun, 30, Syed Nur, 28, Mohammad Romiz Uddin, 30, Mohammad Kayser, 38, Mohammad Monir Hossain ,35, Mohammad Afsar Ali, 25, Abu Bakar,29, Mohammad Mobin, 25, and Abdur Razzak,33 and identities of other six victims remain unknown.

They all are residents of Cox’s Bazar an Bandarban districts.

They worked at rubber gardens under different companies in the upazila.

Lama Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Md. Shahadat Hossain confirmed the incident and said that the abducted workers had not been rescued yet.

One of the rubber gardens owner Shahjahan confirmed that 12 workers had been taken from his garden.

He reported that some extortionists had demanded a ransom of Tk 6 lakh from several workers a few days ago. As their demand was not met, they abducted the workers.

Since last two months, the abductors have picked up more than fifty workers from various rubber gardens across the upazila and released them after getting their demanded ransom.
