Renowned folk singer Farida Parveen has been discharged from the hospital after being admitted on February 1 due to breathing complications.
Initially placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), her health has improved, though she is still recovering.
Her husband, instrumentalist Gazi Abdul Hakim, confirmed that she returned home on Friday night (February 14). "She is much better now, but she still cannot walk on her own. Her condition is improving steadily. She can eat and drink normally, but doctors say full recovery will take more time," he shared.
Farida Parveen was diagnosed with fluid in her lungs, along with other health complications. She is set to return to the hospital next week for follow-up tests, according to Gazi Abdul Hakim.
Hospital sources revealed that she suffered from severe respiratory distress upon admission, leading doctors to move her to the ICU. Medical examinations also identified age-related conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. During her hospital stay, she was under the care of chest disease, kidney, and critical care specialists.
Farida Parveen's musical journey began in 1968 as a Nazrul Sangeet performer on Rajshahi Betar. However, she rose to prominence through her soulful renditions of folk music, particularly Lalon Geeti.
She has been honored with prestigious awards, including the Ekushey Padak (1987) for her outstanding contribution to music. In 1993, she won the National Film Award for her playback singing, and in 2008, she was recognized internationally with the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize from the Japanese government.
While her health remains fragile, fans and well-wishers continue to hope for her speedy recovery and return to music.
